Many priests assume new responsibilities without adequate, or indeed in may cases any, preparation. This preparation is available but in many cases it requires researching and collating. Preparation for ministry and its changing needs is an appropriate element of this task group’s activity. The Task Group will support the work of diocesan initiatives.
National Task Group in Ongoing Formation
Attention will also be given to developing ways of supporting priests in the day-to-day exercise of their ministry. Many priests are already engaged in different kinds of ongoing formation and programmes that have the priest’s need to care for himself at their core. To make these initiatives and programmes more explicit and available to a wider group of clergy would be one of the early goals of the Task Group on Ongoing Formation.
